Minister of Works, David Umahi, has vowed to continue supporting the 750km Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway.
He disclosed this in Awi, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, during the flag off of the Calabar section.
“This project is beyond road construction but an investment. I take responsibility for the costing, alignment and choice of contractors. I can defend this project any day and anytime, even up to the World Court.”
The minister said the project was conceived 27 years ago by President Tinubu and thanked God for giving him the wisdom to dream and the opportunity to fulfill the dream.
He charged people of Cross River to cooperate with the contractors as the speed of the project will depend on them.
Governor Bassey Otu who represented President Tinubu said the project is an economic enabler, job creation booster, inter/intra regional linkage and other verticals.
He urged residents to reawaken their entrepreneurial spirit and maximally utilize the diverse economic possibilities the coastal highway offers.
Managing Director of Hitech Construction Danny Abboud said his company is committed to constructing and finishing the project even earlier.
He also pledged to deploy the best international construction standards in the course of executing the project.
Olayinka Onafuye, Federal Controller of Works in Cross River State, promised to supervise the section of the road with a sense of commitment.
The Cross River section of the Highway will pass through 14 communities comprising Awi, Njahasang, Oduyama, Ikot Okon Akiba, Obot Ekpo, Atan Okoyong, Ekemkpon, Mkpara Otop, Kaifa, Nduoduo, Oboroko, Esuk Ekom, Nikita and Ekong Atan Oku before linking with the Calabar River Bridge to Akwa Ibom State.
