Former Jigawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Dr. Sule Lamido, has denied reports claiming he has withdrawn his lawsuit against the party, describing the story as false, misleading, and intended to deceive party members.
Lamido issued the clarification on his official Facebook page on Friday, reacting to widespread reports alleging that he had directed his lawyers to discontinue the case following a meeting with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The circulating report quoted Lamido as saying: “I have directed my legal counsels to withdraw my case against PDP after my meeting with Oyo State Governor, a noble and peaceful man, Engr. Seyi Makinde… The National Convention can now go on. I am in full support.”
However, Lamido dismissed the statement as fabricated.
“I have received several telephone calls across the country from PDP members about the story below making the rounds in Ibadan at the purported PDP Convention venue,” he said.
“I urge members to note as follows: the story or statement attributed to me below is false. A Federal High Court today at around 2:30 pm passed a judgment affirming my right to contest the chairmanship of the PDP, which had been denied me earlier.”
Lamido stressed that the court order stopping the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan remains valid and binding until the PDP complies with the judgment.
He added that the order also restrains the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from supervising or recognising any convention conducted in defiance of the ruling.
“A certified order stopping the Ibadan Convention has already been delivered to INEC and PDP. Disregard the story below in its entirety,” he said.
Lamido’s position adds fresh tension to the PDP’s already divided preparations, as the party leadership insists the convention will proceed despite conflicting court orders.
